Sketchbook Project

after being inactive with my art for some time I have decided to participate in the sketchbook project for 2011 sketchbook project
I plan on posting my progress on here by uploading my sketches, this tour will place my sketchbook in to the hands on many.  I plan on using this opportunity to glorify God and the gift He has given me.  I have to have my sketchbook postmarked by January 2011, please be in prayer that God will use my art to be the comfort and rescue that someone is looking for.

Rooster wall hanging

Rooster wall hanging

I made this for my mom as Christmas gift a while back. She loves some chickens. It was my first attempt at applique. I sketched a rooster and separated feathers and face and used a basic white cotton as the base and then I used fusible fabric to anchor everything down before stitching so nothing would come loose and I wouldn't have to worry about the edges raveling. I stitched my white base to look like chicken wire. I was very pleased with it and I think she was too.

China Shelf

I bought this yesterday for $3.00, I was going to use it in my craft room even though you put plates on it.  I am always looking for more shelf space in my craft room, but then I remembered the beautiful china that was Ryan's Grandmother's and I decided to put it to use the way it was meant to be used. But first it needed to be cleaned up. I used average acrylic paint after wiping the nooks and crannies clean. It took me maybe an hour to paint and hang it. Sweet.

This piece took a lot longer than I thought it would. Lots of colors and some shading. Super cute and simple. I need to sell it though because I have no idea where to hang it. So one day this might show up on Etsy. I'll let you know.

This is my Totoro ipod holder. His belly holds the earbuds and my ipod stays nice and snug and away from the dangers of scratches. Super simple to make. Felt, thread, buttons...the end. The results are a super cute Totoro ipod holder.

Look at my cute little teddy bear I bought for technically twenty-five cents! Oh wait what is this?! It is a USB flash drive! OMG! Took not even a minute. I chopped little bear's head off and stuffed the USB drive in the bear and hot glued along the seam to make sure it doesn't come loose. and then I put the cap in the head for safe keeping and glued that in too. Super Great.

Felt Phone Holder

This is a phone holder I made for my Blackberry Curve. I had seen a couple of cute ideas on the interweb and decided to make one of my very own. Not difficult at all, a basic blanket stitch for the edges and a few buttons for cuteness and flair. I heart felt, it doesn't ravel and it is sturdy. Hooray for felt.

My Little Corner of the Universe

I love trees, and birds so why not add a little silhouette on the wall. If you ever have a wall that needs just a little something extra think about adding your own artistic touch, if you aren't artistic type in "silhouette" find something simple and slap it on your wall. I used your average acrylic paint. Oh and I also painted the banjo piece entitled "I'll Fly Away".

Fox pillow

Book Wreath

Book Wreath
Finally a finished craft posted!
Don't know what to do with that old Automobile user manual? Try recycling it in to a trendy book wreath! i found the tutorial here:
I used my husband's old Plymouth Caravan Automobile user manual after we purchased our Prius. I then added a bow and a daisy I found lying around in my craft room. Surprisingly easy and cheap. I bought the raffia wreath at Hobby Lobby half off for a total of $1.50! The manual was recycled and cost me nothing, and a glue gun. Of course the only appropriate place to hang it is above my book self.

Necktie Pattern Reference

How to make a necktie (link)
My darling husband wants a necktie made out of duct tape...I don't know how that is going to work out, but it is worth a shot.  I posted the link I'm using as a reference just in case some one else could use it.

Fresh Vintage Label How To (link)
I noticed at the end that they made their own labels, I found this site that makes label making easy!  I think this is the design I'll use for my projects.

I love a good glue gun...

For the past few days I have been spending a lot of time in my "laboratory" also known as my craft room and this morning I got to thinking about how often I use the internet as a resource to find new ideas and techniques.  That is when I decided I should make a blog about crafting as well.  I am by no means an expert but I do love to create things and talk with others about their projects.  So if you're looking for some new ideas or some one to bounce ideas off of then this is the place.  I hope to get pictures up of my completed crafts (which are like a unicorn - I finish projects rarely - so if a piece is finished on here consider yourself lucky and rub your computer screen and your crafting days will be lucky as well.)  I will also post things that I find interesting and hope to one day attempt.  To all my fellow crafters out there may your glue guns be hot and your paints be abundant.
