100 for 100

I am participating in my first gallery fundraiser, the 100 for 100 presented by the Center for Visual Artists (CVA).  The event is a one night only fundraiser event on May 2 from 6-9.  Each 10x10 original piece will be sold for $100 and every dollar of the proceeds will go to the center.  To learn more you can visit Center for Visual Artists.

Here is my finished piece that I am submitting.
"Carolina Glory"
10x10
watercolor, metallic ink, ink on watercolor paper (to be mounted on canvas with archival glue)

Also excitedly, I have discovered "Books on Tape" so now I can read and get my make on!  I am currently reading "Eragon" while prepping for the art festival coming up next month!

Back Online

So good ol' NC decided that it wanted to give us all four seasons in a week, I woke up at 3:30 am on Friday to a leaking roof and no power.  A full blown ice storm took down a lot of trees and power lines all while dumping 4 inches of slush on Greensboro.  Luckily my mom was able to put us up for the five days we were without power, I realize how blessed I am that I had a place to go that didn't cost me any money but not being in my studio put a major damper on my maker mojo.  I tried to get my make on but nothing doing so I twiddled my thumbs and watched a lot of tv while surfing pinterest. Tuesday we were finally back in our home and that night I got back to work.  I'm working on a theme right now and I'm having a lot of fun with it trying out some techniques I've never used before.  I was able to get my layout setup for a new product I'm hoping to have on the shelves for tomorrow night's "First Friday" redo, all while getting sketches together for a book illustration commission.  I'm trying to keep my head about me and focus on the tasks at hand instead of fretting over future details, "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?" Watercolor, Gouache, Liquid Gold Leaf

I played around with gold leaf for the first time, I love it.  I used "Liquid Leaf" classic gold purchased from Hobby Lobby. I also tried something new that I have been wanting to experiment with, sprinkle rock salt over the wet watercolor let it dry then rub off the salt (as seen in the background of the bear and fox.)
